Operational principle

The best way to resolve this contradiction is to divide the polishing into two phases. The purpose of coarse throwing is to remove the grinding damage layer. This stage should have the maximum polishing rate. The surface damage formed by coarse throwing is a secondary consideration, but also as small as possible; followed by the fine throwing (or final throwing). The purpose is to remove the surface damage caused by coarse throwing and minimize the polishing damage. When polishing the polishing machine equipment, the sample grinding surface and the throwing disc should be absolutely parallel and evenly gently pressed on the throwing disc, and pay attention to prevent the sample from flying out and producing new grinding marks due to too high pressure. At the same time, the sample should be rotated and moved back and forth along the radius of the turntable, in order to avoid local wear too fast in the polishing process to constantly add powder suspension, so that the polishing fabric to maintain a certain humidity. The humidity is too large to weaken the grinding effect of polishing, so that the hard phase in the sample appears convex and the non-metallic inclusions in steel and graphite phase in cast iron produce “tail” phenomenon; the humidity is too small, due to the sample heating due to friction heat, lubrication, grinding lost luster, and even appear black spots, light alloy will throw the surface. Low rotation speed, preferably less than 600 r/min; the polishing time should be longer than that required to remove the scratches, as the deformation layer should also be removed. The grinding surface is smooth, but dim without light. There are uniform and meticulous grinding marks when observed under the microscope, which needs to be eliminated by fine throwing.
The speed of the wheel can be improved appropriately, and the polishing time is appropriate to throw away the coarse damage layer. The fine after throwing the grinding surface is as bright as a mirror, which is not visible in the microscope open field of view conditions, but the grinding marks can still be seen in the phase contrast lighting conditions.
